Ambernath: Three Ambernath police personnel who were accused of leaving their duty to watch an IPL match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, have been transferred and attached to the control room.

The trio are alleged to have left their posts without the approval or permission from senior officers.

Deputy commissioner of police (Zone 4) Sachin Gore confirmed that the three police personnel – constables Sagar Munde and Anil Thombre, and head constable Dattatreya Vijai – have been relieved of duty from Ambernath police station and attached to the police control room.

Munde, Thombre and Vijai were seen in the VIP section of the Wankhede Stadium without prior permission from senior officials during the Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals match on May 21.

Social activist Praful Thorat, who lodged the complaint about the dereliction of duty, has demanded an inquiry into the financial assets of the officers. Days after lodging a complaint against the three police personnel, Thorat sought police protection claiming threats to his life.

An internal inquiry was ordered and assistant commissioner of police Shailesh Kale was investigating the matter. The outcome of the investigation is awaited.
