In a step towards combating the escalating issue of air pollution, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has introduced a dedicated helpline for citizens to register complaints related to air quality concerns within the municipal area.

The helpline, accessible at 8657887101, is a pivotal component of TMC's comprehensive measures under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar. The initiative aims to establish a direct channel for citizens to report instances of air pollution, fostering active community participation in enhancing the city's environmental well-being.

Encouraging citizens to take an active role, a senior TMC official emphasized, "Citizens are urged to register their complaints, accompanied by a photograph, on the dedicated WhatsApp number 8657887101. This approach ensures an accurate assessment of the nature and severity of pollution, facilitating prompt and effective response measures."

The official outlined specific categories for complaints, including but not limited to:

Open burning of waste

Dust/fume pollution during construction

Uncovered transportation of construction waste/debris (C & D Waste) on roads

Dust pollution from road works

Dumping of construction waste

Dust/fume pollution from hotel-bakeries

Strong smell of chemicals

Illegal parking of vehicles

Upon receiving a complaint, the Thane Municipal Corporation administration will swiftly verify the details and take necessary actions to address the reported pollution. This may involve imposing penalties on violators. In cases involving criminal activities, such as illegal dumping or chemical hazards, the complaints will be forwarded to the police for further investigation and appropriate action, the official affirmed.
