Bhayandar: Cyber Police Station has successfully recovered Rs five lakh which were stolen through an online shopping fraud.
The complainant, identified as Dilip Shah, a resident of the Bhayandar Police Station jurisdiction, was searching for a four-wheeler on an e-Commerce platform. Shah came across an advertisement where a mobile number was provided, and the seller insisted on an advance payment. Shah transferred a total of Rs five lakh online. However, upon attempting to contact the seller again, Shah found the mobile phone switched off, realizing that he had been defrauded.
Shah lodged a complaint and police registered a case and recorded it on the NCCRP Portal.
The Cyber Police managed to identify the suspected bank account and contacted the merchant associated with the e-Commerce platform, requesting them to halt the fraudulent transaction and reverse it.
The diligent follow-up by the Cyber Police resulted in the successful cancellation of the fraudulent transaction, leading to the recovery of the entire amount of Rs five lakh. The recovered sum was subsequently returned to Shah’s original bank account.
