Currently Rs. 2 is being charged for using the facilities

Amidst growing concerns over equitable access to sanitation facilities, social worker Nilesh Kachare has urged the Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner (NMMC) to provide free public toilets for women across the city. In a statement addressing Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) Commissioner Kailas Shinde, Kachare highlighted the disparity in access to sanitary facilities between men and women, calling for immediate action to rectify the situation.

Citing the increasing number of women entering the workforce and engaging in various activities outside the home, Kachare emphasized the need for accessible and free sanitation facilities for women, particularly in public spaces such as market complexes, transport stations, and tourist sites.

“It is astonishing that lavatories facilities in the city for men are free while women have to pay. Adding further to the burden the price for using the services varies at some places it is Rs 2 while at railway station premises it is Rs 5”, pointed Kachare.

In his appeal he urged the municipal chief to immediately issue orders to make the services   free for women, stated Kachare in his statement.
