NMMC announces three-day weekly water shutdown across nodes
Navi Mumbai, often regarded as a water-rich city, is now facing a severe water crisis. Due to a significant decrease in water levels at the Morbe Dam, the primary water source for the city, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has announced a drastic measure to cut water supply three days a week. This decision, implemented just ten days after an initial reduction in water supply, has caused widespread concern among residents.
The NMMC's latest move aims to manage the dwindling water resources more effectively to ensure a steady supply for the city's population. Initially, water supply cuts were scheduled for one day a week in the evenings, which then increased to two days. Now, facing ongoing water shortages, the authorities has enforced a three-day-a-week water shutdown.
The decision to implement water cuts three days a week is organized by wards to distribute the impact evenly across Navi Mumbai:
1. Belapur: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
2. Koparkhairane: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
3. Ghansoli: Wednesday, Friday, Sunday
4. Vashi: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
5. Airoli: Tuesday, Friday
6. Nerul: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
7. Turbhe: Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday
This systematic shutdown is intended to conserve the remaining water reserves and ensure that all areas receive an adequate supply on non-shutdown days. However, the decision has sparked concern among residents, highlighting the urgent need for long-term solutions to Navi Mumbai's water crisis.
Meanwhile, the NMMC has urged citizens to use water judiciously.
