After a hiatus of four years, the much-anticipated 'Run For Flamingo' Season 3 is poised to return to the city, aiming to raise awareness about the vital significance of wetlands and mangroves and the vital need for their protection. Organized by Wandering Souls in collaboration with Save Navi Mumbai Environment group, this initiative seeks to engage participants across various categories, including 1k, 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon. The registration window remains open until 31st December 2023, inviting individuals of all ages to join this mission run.

Mumbai Road Runners' Survey has previously acclaimed 'Run for Flamingos' Season 1 and 2, ranking them 1st among runs across Maharashtra and 3rd nationwide.

The event is strategically planned in Navi Mumbai, renowned for its rich biodiversity and home to reserved forests, housing numerous bird species, including migratory birds like flamingos.

Scheduled for 11th February 2024, the event's launch, which included the unveiling of themed T-shirts, took place at Talawe Wetlands. The significance of wetlands and mangroves was emphasized by Shruti Agarwal, while Sunil Agarwal shed light on the legal aspects. Amit Kumar, the race director, shared insights into his involvement, and ambassadors expressed their unwavering commitment to the cause. Dharmesh Barai was honoured as a 'mangrove soldier' with a special T-shirt.

Reflecting on the journey, Sunil Agarwal, a patron of the run, shared, "In 2018, we celebrated Wetlands Day at Talawe wetland on World Wetlands Day. Upon receiving a judgment from the Bombay High Court in November 2018 that protected the wetlands, lakes, and mangroves of Navi Mumbai, we envisioned a run as a powerful tool to raise awareness. Thus, in February 2019, we organized our first 'Run for Flamingos.' The next season in February 2020 was on a larger scale. However, due to circumstances like the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to pause for the next three years. The resurgence of land mafia activity destroying wetlands and mangroves prompted us to organize this run on 11th February to highlight and sensitize people to this pressing issue."

“The upcoming 'Run for Flamingoes' Season 3 promises to rekindle the spirit of environmental advocacy and community engagement, aiming to make a significant impact in the realm of wetland and mangrove conservation”, said Agarwal.
