The much-awaited renovation of Kalyan's historic Durgadi Fort, a symbol of the city's heritage, is set to commence soon, announced Shiv Sena City Chief Ravi Patil. This decision follows a recent inspection after part of the fort's tower collapsed, drawing attention to the urgent need for restoration efforts.

Shiv Sena officials, including Ravi Patil, Deputy City Chief Mohan Ugle, and other prominent members, visited Durgadi Fort to assess the damage and discuss the upcoming renovation plans with Public Works Department (PWD) officials. The fort, known for its historical significance, has suffered considerable decay over the years.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had previously allocated Rs. 25 crore for the fort's restoration, of which Rs. 12.5 crore has been sanctioned and Rs. 2.5 crore already utilized. The remaining Rs. 10 crore, delayed due to election-related code of conduct, will now see implementation in the coming days, according to Ravi Patil.

Highlighting the urgency of preserving the fort's architectural integrity, Ravi Patil emphasized the need for an additional Rs. 50 crore to fully reconstruct Durgadi Fort using stone. The planned renovation will be executed in two phases, focusing initially on widening the fort's entrance arch and constructing a new tower. Subsequent phases will involve enlarging the temple area and ensuring all future constructions adhere to traditional stone architecture.
