The possible relocation of the proposed Konkan International Sports Complex, originally slated for construction in Sector 12, Ghansoli under the auspices of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), to Sidkot has stirred concerns among local residents. In response, citizens have fervently come together to advocate for the stadium to remain in Ghansoli, launching a spirited campaign in support of the cause.

The NMMC has been actively engaged in promoting sports development within the city, with a keen focus on bolstering sports infrastructure. The endeavour to secure suitable land for a state-of-the-art sports complex in Navi Mumbai has been ongoing since 2010. In November 2016, the CIDCO Board of Directors gave their approval for the allocation of a plot measuring 1,45,452.96 square meters in Sector 13, Ghansoli, for the construction of a Divisional Sports Complex. Initially designated for a Sports Complex, this site is envisioned to house an Olympic-sized swimming pool, track and field facilities, an indoor stadium, a hockey stadium, and venues for kabaddi and kho-kho, all equipped with international-standard amenities.

This land, formerly under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) jurisdiction, obtained approval for development after the government extended the CRZ limit to 50 meters. However, developers have now shown interest in this prime location, prompting discussions about altering its intended use to Sidkot.

In reaction to the potential relocation, local residents have launched a determined effort to retain the international sports complex in Ghansoli. The campaign to safeguard the sports complex initiated with a signature drive, garnering participation from project stakeholders, athletes, coaching classes, social organizations, society officials, and a significant number of residents.
