Residents of Sector 26, Vashi demand action on encroached plots

top-news

Frustrated by the lack of action on unauthorized constructions and encroachments in Sector 26, residents have raised their voices in concern. APMC, in collaboration with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and CIDCO, has been slow to address the issue of unauthorized huts and illegal vehicle depots on vacant plots in the area, leading residents to question when action will finally be taken.

An expanding empire of unauthorized huts has taken root on CIDCO's open land in Vashi Sector 19, alongside illegal vehicle depots and garages. The proliferation of slums has led to an increase in criminal activities, causing grave concerns for law and order. Despite residents' complaints, the police have appeared indifferent to the issue, leaving the community feeling unsafe, especially women.

Residents have diligently followed up with the Municipal Corporation, CIDCO, and even the Chief Minister's Office, pleading for decisive action. However, it appears that only superficial steps have been taken, with the situation largely unchanged. Frustrated and fearing for their safety, Sector 26 residents posed a critical question to CIDCO's Chief Controller of Unauthorized Construction, Sanjay Jadhav: When will action be taken against the encroachments and illegal structures in their locality?

In response, Sanjay Jadhav assured residents that action would be initiated within the next 10 to 12 days to address the pressing issue.

The President of Navi Mumbai Adhishthan Sanket Doke stated, "We have been battling this issue and persistently engaging with the administration for over a year, urging them to address the encroachment on APMC Sector 19's open plot. Regrettably, it seems the administration's actions thus far have been merely cosmetic. Therefore, we urge CIDCO to take concrete action promptly. If not, the residents of Sector 26 are prepared to take matters into their own hands, using Poclain JCB, and CIDCO will bear responsibility for the potential consequences on law and order."
