Panvel: A general body meeting held to discuss the redevelopment of a housing society in New Panvel turned violent on the afternoon of March 8, leading to the registration of a police case against five individuals. The Khandeshwar Police have booked the son of the society chairman and his associates for allegedly assaulting residents during the meeting.

The incident occurred around 1:30 pm at the C.K.T. College premises, where members of the Amrutvel Co-operative Housing Society in Sector 14 had gathered to deliberate on redevelopment proposals and related terms. According to police sources, a heated argument broke out between members of the management committee and some residents over project conditions and procedural matters.

During the dispute, Ajinkya Ravindra Bhagat, the son of the society’s chairman, allegedly called a group of outside youths to the venue. Soon after, the group reportedly entered the meeting hall, verbally abused the residents, and began physically assaulting them.

Two residents, Mayur Natha Gavand and his brother Viren Gavand, were reportedly attacked during the scuffle. Police said they were punched in the chest and stomach, resulting in injuries. The sudden outbreak of violence created panic among those present, particularly elderly residents attending the meeting.

Following a complaint, the Khandeshwar Police registered an FIR against Ajinkya Ravindra Bhagat and four others under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and the Indian Penal Code for assault, unlawful assembly, and criminal intimidation.

The investigation is being led by Senior Police Inspector Smita Dhakane. Authorities are currently probing the incident and examining the role of all individuals involved.
