PMC takes action on garbage being dumped at Sector 27, Kharghar

After a report in Newsband titled ‘Residents raise concerns over garbage being thrown out in the open at Ranjanpada village in Kharghar,’ highlighting the condition of an open space where garbage was being dumped by people on the outskirts of Ranjanpada village at Sector 27, Kharghar appeared, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) swung into action and immediately sent a team of sanitation workers to pick up the accumulated garbage and clean the spot.

Residents were glad with the promptness shown by the civic authorities but stressed that civic sense needs to be instilled in people.

Gaurav Paul, responded on ‘X’ to PMC’s tweet which showed sanitation workers cleaning the area. He said, “Good work by PMC but please sensitise people on such matters through Information Education Communication (IEC) activities. These people are not segregating their waste but at least they must use dust bins and throw garbage at designated places.”

Shilpa Desai, another resident of the locality said, “I am thankful to the municipal authorities for sending in a team to clean up here. But apart from that even when the civic administration does its duty, we citizens should remember that just like it is our duty to vote. We also have a duty to keep the area we live in clean and tidy.”

Residents stated that while they are grateful for the response, there needs to be an effort each day by both the authorities and the general public to ensure that the areas in Kharghar and other nodes are kept clean. So that there are no harmful consequences of improper waste manageme
