Residents demand action
Commuters traversing the main road from Kharghar Sector 27 to Sector 34, passing through Pethpada Metro, are grappling with darkness as the street lights along the route have been inactive for a month. This blackout has not only inconvenienced travellers but has also heightened safety concerns, particularly after reports of nocturnal incidents in the area.
The absence of proper street light along the thoroughfare, including the space beneath the metro bridge, has left pedestrians and commuters vulnerable to potential mishaps, especially during the night. Of significant note is the presence of an NMMT bus stand adjacent to the Pethpada metro station, frequented by residents from Kharghar Sector 30 to 35 and Pethgaon, as well as those commuting from Ranjanpada village and Sector 27 area.
Disturbingly, prior instances of night-time thefts have been reported as the street lights have been dysfunctional, exacerbating fears of criminal activities amid the current darkness. With passengers compelled to wait in poorly lit areas for buses, concerns regarding untoward incidents loom large.
Citizens have voiced their discontent, urging the municipal corporation to promptly address the issue by reinstating the street lights along the route. Deepak Shinde, Secretary of BJP Kharghar, highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating, "Street lights are off on the main road of Pethpada Metro Station. A letter has been sent to Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) regarding this. But the official seems to be ignoring the issue."
