NMMC urges conservation
The Morbe Dam, which serves as a crucial water source for Navi Mumbai residents, is now at a critical level, with only 27% of its water reserves remaining. In light of this alarming situation and considering the forecast for upcoming rains, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has issued a heartfelt appeal to all citizens to use water judiciously and avoid wastage.
While last year saw Morbe Dam brimming with water due to record rainfall, this year paints a starkly different picture. Despite receiving significant rainfall in previous years, the increasing population and escalating water consumption have led to a rapid depletion of the dam's reserves. As of now, there is only enough water to last till August, highlighting the pressing need for conservation measures.
In a bid to tackle this challenge, the NMMC has outlined several crucial instructions for residents:
Use Water Sparingly: Citizens are urged to use water judiciously and avoid unnecessary consumption.
Prevent Wastage: Efforts should be made to avoid any wastage of water, whether it's during daily activities or otherwise.
Vehicle Washing: Potable water should not be used for washing vehicles.
Overflow Prevention: Care must be taken to ensure that water storage tanks do not overflow.
Tap Management: Water taps should be turned off when not in use to prevent unnecessary leakage.
Avoid Stale Water: Stored water should not be allowed to stagnate and become stale.
Prompt Repairs: Any leaking faucets or pipes should be promptly repaired to prevent water loss.
Construction Usage: Drinking water should not be utilized for construction purposes.
