NMMC launches Amnesty Scheme for property tax recovery

top-news

The commissioner of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), Rajesh Narvekar has announced the initiation of ‘Abhay Yojana’ or Amnesty Scheme aimed at facilitating the collection of overdue property taxes within the municipal area. The scheme, effective from March 1st to March 31st, offers property holders an opportunity to settle outstanding dues with reduced penalties.

Under the terms of Abhay Yojana, participation is voluntary for property holders. During the initial phase, from March 1st to 20th, settling the outstanding property tax amount along with a 25 percent penalty will result in a waiver of 75 percent of the total penalty. Subsequently, from March 21st to 31st, payment of the outstanding tax with a 50 percent penalty will entail a waiver of 50 percent of the total penalty.

It's essential to note that Abhay Yojana does not offer relief on the original property tax amount, necessitating payment of both the original tax and penalties in full. Partial payments do not qualify for scheme benefits. Interested individuals must apply online through the NMMC website (www.nmmc.gov.in), the nmme e-connect mobile app, or at designated centers including headquarters, divisional offices, and payment centres.

Payment methods include cash, cheque, or draft, with facilities available at specified centers. However, failure to clear cheques within the Abhay Yojana period will render applicants ineligible for scheme benefits. Furthermore, any property tax payments made before the implementation of Abhay Yojana are not eligible for exemptions or refunds.
