Koparkhairane-based NGO, Pehchan Live Foundation, ventured into Bihar to commemorate International Women's Day by addressing menstrual hygiene concerns among tribal women. The NGO conducted an awareness program in the Birozpur and Pokharia areas of Dharhara, distributing sanitary pads to 500 tribal women. Their initiative aims to improve living conditions and hygiene practices among marginalized communities, while also advocating against the harmful practice of dowry and promoting girls' education.
Pehchan Live Foundation is renowned in Koperkhairane for its initiatives supporting street children's education and providing free tuition classes to underprivileged individuals. Prior to their journey to Bihar, the NGO conducted similar activities in Koperkhairane, educating 70 economically disadvantaged women on self-hygiene and providing them with sanitary pads.
Recognizing the importance of menstrual hygiene in women's health, Pehchan NGO is launching a mentorship program to educate women and girls about menstrual hygiene management. Through informative sessions led by trained professionals, the NGO aims to break the stigma surrounding menstruation and empower women to manage their periods hygienically.
In addition to counselling sessions, the NGO distributed 500 sanitary pads to women and girls in deprived areas of Bihar. Access to sanitary products is crucial for maintaining menstrual hygiene, yet affordability remains a challenge for many women. By providing these essential supplies, Pehchan NGO hopes to alleviate the financial burden and ensure that women can manage their menstrual cycles safely and comfortably.
Afsana Parveen, Founder of Pehchan Live Foundation, emphasized the need for collective action to promote women's health and rights. She called on individuals, organizations, and policymakers to join their efforts in creating a more equitable and inclusive society, free from discrimination and stigma. Parveen also highlighted the harmful impact of the dowry system on women in deprived communities, stressing the importance of challenging this practice and promoting gender equality and women's empowerment through awareness-raising activities and community participation.
