In alignment with a new law passed by the Government of India, the Navi Mumbai Police has been leveraging advanced technology and forensic science for investigations over the past year. This initiative, which includes the use of electronic media, has set a benchmark for other police forces in the country.
The Navi Mumbai Police has integrated several advanced systems such as the i-bike, Nelson System, e-Pairvi, Evidence Management System, and Dispatch Van. These tools aid in the comprehensive collection and management of digital and circumstantial evidence, enhancing the effectiveness of criminal investigations.
The new law mandates the use of electronic media in technical compliance, forensic science, and investigation procedures. This includes the incorporation of digital evidence alongside traditional evidence at crime scenes. Consequently, all police forces have been given a year to upgrade their systems to comply with these requirements.
Under the leadership of Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe, the department has installed computer-electronic communication devices to facilitate proper investigations and improve conviction rates under "Mission Conviction." These devices aid in the collection of digital evidence, including audio and video recordings, witness statements, and accurate time registrations.
Special training sessions have been conducted for officers and enforcers, equipping them with the necessary kits and i-bikes to gather and preserve evidence scientifically. The i-bikes are used at crime scenes to collect evidence, which is then securely sent to forensic laboratories for analysis.
Additionally, the Navi Mumbai Police has implemented the online app e-Pairvi for issuing summons to prosecutors and witnesses. This system allows summonses to be issued directly from the police station, reducing manpower and workload while increasing the efficiency of the process.
Over the past year, the Navi Mumbai Police has also introduced the Nelson System, Evidence Management System, Evidence Management System-Vehicle, and Dispatch Van. These initiatives save manpower and utilize technology to ensure maximum criminals are brought to justice, serving as a model for other police forces.
The experience and success of the Navi Mumbai Police in implementing these systems provide valuable insights and a trailblazing example for other police forces aiming to adopt similar technological advancements.
