Belapur: NMMC has achieved a historic milestone by collecting Rs 366.80 crore in property tax in the first quarter of the 2025–26 financial year—its highest ever for the period.
The record collection was made possible through proactive initiatives launched by the civic body, including doorstep delivery of bills by women’s self-help groups, digital payment platforms, mobile-based KYC updates, and a 10 per cent rebate on general tax. According to the municipal commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, the achievement reflects the joint effort of citizens, officials, and ground-level staff.
Out of 3.47 lakh taxpayers, more than 1 lakh paid their dues, with Rs 220 crore collected online. The final day of the quarter alone saw collections crossing Rs 90 crore. Nerul ward led with the highest contribution of Rs 74.13 crore, and over 99,000 taxpayers availed the 10 percent rebate.
NMMC has set a target of Rs 1,200 crore for property tax collection for the financial year 2025–26. To meet this target, the corporation implemented measures such as doorstep bill delivery through women’s self-help groups, KYC data updates via mobile apps, digital payment systems, WhatsApp chatbot access to bills, and a 10% rebate on general tax.
To boost revenue further, NMMC has partnered with Foxberry Technologies for analytics and awareness campaigns.
From July 1, a 2 per cent monthly penalty is being imposed on delayed payments. Dr. Shinde appealed to citizens to avoid late fees and continue supporting the city's development through timely tax payments.
