Navi Mumbai: As part of the state government’s 100-day Action Plan, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) destroyed a total of 50,227 outdated files across departments. The initiative is in line with the seven-point program announced by the Chief Minister to improve efficiency and transparency in regional offices.

Under the action plan, NMMC made significant upgrades, including modernizing its official website and launching a dedicated mobile app to improve access to civic services. Emphasis was placed on digitizing public services, improving the grievance redressal system, and enhancing communication with citizens. Offices have also seen upgrades, such as clean toilets, better drinking water systems, comfortable waiting rooms, and reading corners.

A major focus was on record management. Departments conducted a review of all records, categorizing them into Class A, B, C, and D based on retention rules. Files required for future reference were archived, while expired and unnecessary records were destroyed.

In total, 50,227 expired records were removed from 46 Class B, 36,808 Class C1, 4,066 Class C, and 9,307 Class D. In the Belapur archives room, 9,955 Class C1 and 2,749 Class C files were destroyed. Airoli’s archives room accounted for 46 Class B, 26,853 Class C1, 1,317 Class C, and 9,307 Class D files.

The local body tax/cess department contributed the most to the clean-up with 23,070 files, followed by the property tax department with 647.
