Belapur: In a novel initiative to update its property tax records and accelerate its digitization, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has appointed women members of registered self-help groups (SHGs) for home delivery of property tax bills.

The SHG group will act as part-time representatives of NMMC for the delivery of property tax bills for the financial year 2025–26 and collect property-related data. The SHG women group will be deployed from May 23, 2025.

The aim of the initiative is to collect updated property owner information so that payment of property tax bills and their payments can be done entirely online, without requiring the property owner to visit the municipal office.

The SHG women’s group have been provided with temporary identity cards issued by the municipal corporation.

NMMC has urged citizens to accept the property tax bills from the women representatives and provide accurate information such as the full name of the property owner, active mobile number, and an email ID for digital records. This appeal has been made by Dr. Kailas Shinde, municipal commissioner and administrator, NMMC.

The data collected by the women representatives will be seeded in the property tax department’s digital system so that in the future, property tax bills, notifications, and payment reminders can be easily received by property owners on their mobile phones.

In his appeal, Dr Shinde has asked housing societies to allow the women representatives access to each household without any obstruction.
