Belapur: In just two years since its launch, CIDCO’s Metro service on Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 (Belapur–Pendhar) has achieved an impressive milestone by clocking a total ridership of 1,15,28,297 commuters. Vijay Singhal, Managing Director (MD), CIDCO, congratulated the Metro team for this remarkable accomplishment, stating that the ridership of over one crore reflects the strong public response. He added that the corridor has significantly improved connectivity for residents and office-goers in Belapur, Kharghar, and Taloja, thanking Navi Mumbai citizens for their continued support.
CIDCO developed Line 1 to boost the public transport network in Navi Mumbai. The service began operations on 17 November 2023 and was officially dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister on 12 January 2024. The route now serves as a crucial link for CBD Belapur, Kharghar, and Taloja.
To improve efficiency and commuter experience, CIDCO revised the timetable, offering trains every 10 minutes during peak hours and 15 minutes during non-peak hours in both directions. Additionally, fares were reduced, with ticket prices now ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 30, making the service more affordable and attracting a growing number of commuters.
Further expansion is planned, with Line 1 set to extend from Belapur to NMIA. Line 2 is proposed between Pendhar and Taloja MIDC, and onward to NMIA via Kalamboli and Kamothe, covering approximately 16 km.
