MNS threatens to block Mumbai University sub-centre in Kalyan over lack of courses

In a bid to address the concerning issue of underutilization of the Mumbai University sub-centre in Kalyan, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has issued a stern warning. With only 11 students currently enrolled, the MNS has demanded the immediate commencement of full-capacity courses at the facility, failing which they threaten to block its operations.

Led by former MNS MLA and Kalyan City President, Prakash Bhoir, a delegation from the MNS visited the sub-centre to assess the situation. Expressing disappointment over the dismal enrollment figures, Bhoir questioned whether the sub-centre served as a legitimate educational institution or merely functioned as an election office.

The sub-centre, established five years ago in Kalyan's Vasant Valley area, was envisioned to provide accessible higher education to students in the region. However, the current state of affairs paints a bleak picture, with a glaring lack of awareness among students resulting in minimal enrollment.

Highlighting the discrepancy between the intended purpose of the sub-centre and its actual usage, MNS representatives raised concerns about its sporadic utilization as an election office and venue for non-educational activities, such as Ganeshotsav celebrations.

Comparing the situation to the thriving sub-centre in Thane, which boasts around 500 enrolled students, MNS officials emphasized the need for proactive measures to promote and advertise the courses offered in Kalyan. They stressed that students from the surrounding villages should benefit from the educational opportunities provided by the sub-centre.

The MNS delegation, comprising prominent leaders and activists, including Ulhas Bhoir, Nayana Bhoir, and Vinod Kene were present during the meeting.
