Demand builders to install Marathi signboards

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) staged a strong protest at the CIDCO Exhibition Centre in Vashi during the ongoing BANM-CREDAI property exhibition, demanding immediate compliance with the Supreme Court's mandate of displaying establishments in the Marathi language.

Expressing frustration over non-compliance with the court's directive, MNS members warned of potential closure of the exhibition centre unless swift action was taken to implement Marathi signage on all stalls.

"Despite explicit directives from the Supreme Court and a fervent appeal by the commissioner of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), Rajesh Narvekar, urging adherence to these guidelines, it is regrettable that the developer community has turned a blind eye to these mandates," voiced agitated MNS members.

Citing the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Amendment Act, 2022, which mandates the display of bold Marathi name boards for registered shops and establishments under Section 6 of Section 36 'C' (1), the MNS highlighted the non-compliance prevalent among several developers in Navi Mumbai.

The court's deadline of November 25 to implement Marathi signboards across all establishments in the state has been disregarded by these developers, despite the municipal commissioner's earnest plea.
