Mira Road’s Adarsh Vidya Niketan triumphs at NMMC’s Grantalaya Vigyan competition

In a showcase of scientific creativity and dramatic talent, Mira Road's Adarsh Vidya Niketan emerged victorious in the Grantalaya’s Vigyan competition, securing the top position in the district. The event, organized by Grantalaya’s Pratihangan Vigyandhara, aimed to foster a scientific perspective among students through the medium of drama. Alongside, School No. 46 in Gothivali triumphed at the inter-school level among NMMC schools, adding another feather to the cap of educational excellence in the region.
The competition, held at NMMC’s Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Vidyalaya, Rabale, witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 300 students representing Navi Mumbai Municipal Schools and institutions across the Thane district.
From February 26 to 28, these budding scientists and thespians showcased their talents, supported by the collaborative efforts of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Anvay Pratishthan.
Under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar and Deputy Commissioner of Education Yogesh Kaduskar, 19 schools from Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation delivered commendable performances, highlighting the synergy between education and creative expression.
Notably, NMMC School No. 46 in Gothivali clinched the first position, joined by NMMC School No. 55 in Rabale and NMMC School No. 116 in Sanpada, showcasing their prowess in scientific storytelling.
Encouragement prizes were bestowed upon NMMC School No. 15 in Shiravane and NMMC School No. 118 in Pavane, acknowledging their efforts in contributing to the spirit of the competition.
In the culmination of the event, Adarsh Vidya Niketan in Mira Road secured the coveted first prize in the science one-act play competition, outshining competitors from six other centres in the Thane district.
Rajiv Gandhi Vidyalaya in Nalasopara claimed the second position, marking a celebration of scientific ingenuity and theatrical flair.
Former Mayor Sudhakar Sonawane presided over the prize distribution ceremony, commending the initiative for nurturing a scientific mindset among students. He emphasized the potential of leveraging modern platforms like social media for effective science communication, recognizing the importance of adapting to the current digital landscape.
Participants were provided with science one-act series books through the library, empowering schools to curate and present plays aligned with their interests, thereby emphasizing content and presentation over extravagant costumes or props. Looking ahead to the Grantalaya's 50th anniversary next year, Sudesh Hinglaspurkar, a trustee of the library, shared ambitious plans for the future, underscoring the organization's commitment to educational enrichment.
Distinguished guests included Dr. Sharad Kale from the Bhabha Atomic Energy Center, Dr. Ajit Magdoom, Dr. Nandini Thatte, Dr. Sudhir Thatte, and Municipal Education Extension Officer Sulabha Barghare, offered insights and appreciation for the event.
The competition was adjudged by actor Manish Soparkar and Dr. Shubham Patil, with guidance from headmistress Ranjana Vansha. Mr. Ashwini Bhoir and Mr. Narayan Landge Patil moderated the program, extending gratitude to all participants for their contribution to the celebration of science and creativity.
