Mira Road: Amid the escalating political row over unauthorized steel container offices mushrooming across Mira Bhayandar, a new chapter was added on Friday with the installation of a police container chowki near the Jari Mari Temple gate in the Kashigaon area.
"This move, initiated following continuous complaints from local residents about the rising nuisance caused by anti-social elements such as drug addicts and alcoholics near the temple premises, has gained political and administrative momentum. Women and elderly residents had particularly raised concerns over safety and harassment during daily commutes," said the officer.
"After repeated written complaints to the Kashigaon and old Kashimira police stations went unaddressed for months, the issue was finally brought to the attention, took the initiative to establish and a beat chowki at the troubled spot established," said local leader Rambhuvan Sharma.
A police container equipped with basic infrastructure has now been installed, with an API-rank officer Manik Patil and two constables assigned to the location. The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) facilitated the allocation of land for the chowki, while the container structure itself was arranged through the minister's efforts.
The beat chowki will be officially inaugurated on May 17, 2025.
This development comes at a time when the city is witnessing a growing controversy over the arbitrary placement of containers on public land. While BJP leaders have accused the MBMC of selectively allowing container offices—especially those of rival parties like the Shiv Sena—the administration has maintained that permissions are subject to legal clearance and civic norms.
Critics argue that the sudden placement of a police container amidst this "container war" may be politically motivated, while supporters hail it as a much-needed step toward restoring law and order in a troubled area.
