Mira Road: In a significant achievement, the Cyber Police Station under Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar Police Commissionerate successfully recovered a sum of Rs 1.59 crore that had been inadvertently transferred to a wrong bank account during an online transaction.
The complainant, owner of a digital solutions company, discovered the erroneous transfer on December 4, 2024, while making an online RTGS transaction. Realising the mistake, he immediately lodged a complaint on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.

Our cyber unit worked diligently and ensured that the rightful owner received his funds in full,” Avinash Ambure, deputy commissioner of police (crime) said.
As a symbolic gesture, a replica cheque of Rs. 1.59 crore was handed over to the complainant’s legal representative, Adv. Pradeep Sarvagi, by Ambure.
The police reiterated that online fraud is a punishable offense and advised anyone who becomes a victim to immediately report the incident to the nearest police station, cyber crime cell, or through the official website www.cybercrime.gov.in or helpline 1930 / 1945.
