Mira Road: Days after Newsband’s reported about Kashigaon police installing a steel container beat chowki near the Jari Mari Temple gate without formal clearance (Police join the container war in Mira Bhayandar reported on May 16) from the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), formal permission has been sought from the civic authorities for the same.
Following the report, the Kashigaon Police deferred the inauguration initially scheduled for May 17.
In a formal letter submitted on May 21 addressed to MBMC, Kashigaon senior police inspector Mahesh Togarwad has requested permission to officially place the container beat chowki near Jari Mari Temple gate. The letter also seeks a no objection certificate (NOC) for the structure.
The container chowki was installed following spate of in response to public complaints about increasing anti-social activities—particularly near religious and residential areas. An API-rank officer and two constables were assigned to the new setup with basic infrastructure in place.
While many welcomed the move, the unauthorized nature of the container’s placement stirred political tensions.
The viral report led to increased scrutiny, with political parties accusing each other of favouritism and civic violations. Residents voiced concerns about the ad hoc and opaque process of setting up such containers without clearances.
The MBMC was accused of allowing selective installations. Critics from the BJP called out the civic body’s alleged bias, while Shiv Sena affiliates defended the move as a response to citizen safety.
Now, with mounting pressure and legal questions raised, the police department has backtracked and decided to seek a formal NOC and approval for the container chowki.
