Belapur: The Navi Mumbai Cyber Police have arrested a man in Kerala for allegedly cheating a logistics company of Rs. 62 lakh by impersonating its owner on WhatsApp. The accused, identified as Shameer T. P., was arrested in Kannur district on October 3, 2026, and is currently in police custody.

According to police, the fraud occurred between August 19 and 31, 2026, when the accused allegedly contacted an accountant of Cargo Movers & Logistics Pvt. Ltd., located in Sector 15, CBD Belapur. Posing as the company's owner, he allegedly gained the employee's trust and persuaded him to transfer Rs. 62 lakh from the firm's account.

Following a complaint by the company, the Cyber Police registered a case under Sections 318(4), 319(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.

Under Senior Police Inspector Vishal Patil's guidance, a team led by Police Sub-Inspector Abhay Kadam traced the financial transactions. Investigators found that Rs. 32 lakh had been transferred to an account maintained with IndusInd Bank, leading them to Kannur, Kerala.

Further investigation revealed that the accused's bank account was linked to six cyber fraud complaints reported from different states across India.

Police are examining the money trail, investigating possible accomplices and probing the accused's suspected involvement in other cybercrime cases.
