Maha emerges runner-up in Khelo India Pencak Silat Women's tournament

Kopar Khairane: Maharashtra team emerged as first runner-up in Khelo India Pencak Silat Women's (Jr) League tourney. The Maharashtra team consisting of 44 athletes showcased creative fights using conventional weapons like sword, hunter, etc in solo as well as in group events.

The event from May 1 to 4 was held at the Christ Academy School premises Kopar Khairane. It was organised by the Maharashtra Pencak Silat Association.

A total of 364 players from 30 states participated in the tournament. Maharashtra scored four gold, three silver, and one bronze while Madhya Pradesh emerged as the overall champion, with five gold, two silver, and two 2 bronzes. The second runner-up position was claimed by Assam, which won three gold, three silver, and seven bronze medals.

Pencak Silat is an Indonesian martial art. It is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

This sport was also included in the 37th National Games held in Goa on May 14, 2023, by the Indian Olympic Association.
