Navi Mumbai District Chess Tournament held by Airoli Sports Association

The Navi Mumbai District Chess Tournament, organized by the Airoli Sports Association (ASA), witnessed the participation of 900 players from 90 schools across Navi Mumbai. This prestigious two-day event commenced on Monday, September 11th, and will conclude on the 12th.

The tournament received guidance from the NMMC district sports officer and was inaugurated by the Deputy Collector of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Sports Department.

A special guest at the event was Arjuna Award Winner for Athletics, Lalita Babar. Notably, Babar holds the Indian national record in the 300-metre steeplechase and is the reigning Asian champion in the same discipline. She also represented India in the 2016 Olympics.

The participants and ASA warmly welcomed Lalita Babar, and she was presented with an ASA Memento. The presentation took place in the presence of Mr. R. H. Gurav, NMMC Sports Officer, along with General Secretary Dr. Hemant Anarthe and Joint Secretary Mr. Pravin Paithankar.

This district tournament featured players from diverse age groups and consisted of both male and female players who showcased their chess skills and competitive spirit. The NMMC Sports Department, along with players and parents, appreciated ASA’s meticulous arrangements, which included comfortable seating arrangements, snack counters, and access to water, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
