Mumbai, June 9: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today flagged off the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Circuit train from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, marking the beginning of a historic and inspiring journey as part of the Indian Railways’ Bharat Gaurav initiative. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Fadnavis described the journey as a motivational experience for all passengers.
Fadnavis emphasized that the special train will serve as a moving tribute to the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and India's freedom struggle.
“Over 700 passengers are embarking on this journey today, with nearly 80 per cent of them being under the age of 40. They are setting out to explore the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This circuit offers people from across Maharashtra the opportunity to witness and experience history,” he said.
He expressed happiness that the train’s launch coincides with the 351st anniversary of the coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. “It is a proud moment that this journey is commencing on such a historic day,” he added.
Highlighting Shivaji Maharaj’s achievements, Fadnavis said, “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj established the Swarajya by defeating the Mughals and foreign invaders, and eventually expanded it up to the Attock region. Today, the Glory Circuit makes its first halt at Raigad and will further cover historic sites like Shivneri, Lal Mahal, and Shivsrushti in Pune. It will also include a visit to the Mahalakshmi Temple in Kolhapur.”
Passengers were welcomed at the station by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) with traditional Dhol-Tasha performances. Floral bouquets were presented to travellers, and informative brochures about tourism destinations across Maharashtra were distributed.
The five-day tour includes visits to several historic sites related to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s life. Cultural programmes based on historical themes are also planned throughout the journey.
The initiative is a collaboration between the Indian Railways and the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation. The train’s journey from Mumbai will showcase Maharashtra’s rich heritage and cultural legacy. At every stop, tourists will be provided with detailed information about the region’s historical and tourist landmarks.
To ensure a memorable and comfortable experience, MTDC and IRCTC officials will guide and support passengers at each stage of the journey. From railway stations to ancient forts, travellers will trace the footsteps of history while enjoying the beauty and richness of Maharashtra.
