Kharghar: In a tragic incident, a 45-year-old stabbed his wife before slitting his own throat in sector 34 Kharghar. Both were found dead inside their rented flat.
Notandas aka Sanjay Sachdev stabbed his wife Sapna (35) before taking his own life in Dolphin Pride society. A complaint was lodged by Sapna’s sister Sangeeta Makhija resident of sector 6, Kharghar
Sapna and Notandas, Sindhi nationals from Pakistan, had arrived in India with their two children in November 2024 on a long-term visit visa and had been residing on rent for the past six months. Notandas is believed to have been under stress after being unable to get his business rolling.
“Notandas was short-tempered and fights between the couple were common. He used to physically assault Sapna and the matter had even reached the police. Considering the repeated physical abuse and violence, we had even advised Sapna to lodge a complaint. However, she chose to ignore the matter in the hope of saving her marriage,” Deepa Surve, senior PI, Kharghar police station, said. “He would abuse often and when matters reached the police, he used to apologise to Sapna.”
The couple had two children aged 10 and six. The elder one had gone to school and when the younger one reached home on June 9, no one opened the door. After failing repeatedly, the child rushed to the house of his mother’s friend who resided close by.
With the door closed, an individual entered the flat from the adjacent balcony. The visuals were horrifying, Sr PI Surve said. The bodies were found in the passage adjacent to the bathroom drenched in blood.
Notandas is believed to have attacked Sapna with a kitchen knife, inflicting wounds to her neck, back, and shoulder, resulting in her death. He then inflicted injuries on his own neck and died from the self-inflicted wounds.
The incident is believed to have happened between 9 and 10:30 am. However, the Kharghar police were informed of the incident in the evening. At the time of filing of the report, an FIR was being registered.
A complaint has been registered against Notandas under section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, the police official added.
