In a concerning development, the ongoing water supply issues that have been plaguing residential areas in Navi Mumbai are now extending their reach to the city's industrial estate, sparking concerns among manufacturers. The industrialists, reliant on a consistent water supply to maintain their production schedules, are urgently calling for a solution to this escalating problem.
The industrial estate, managed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), sources its water supply from the Barvi Dam. This dam serves as a critical water source, not only for the industrial estate but also for areas including Badlapur, Kalyan, Dombivali, Thane, and several urban regions within Navi Mumbai. However, in recent months, the industrial estate has been grappling with low water pressure, leading to an inadequate supply of water that directly impacts the manufacturing processes within the factories.
Industrialists have been vocal in their demands for a consistent and robust water supply to ensure uninterrupted production. Despite these persistent appeals, the water supply situation remains far from ideal, leaving factory owners and workers grappling with the consequences of this shortage.
Assistant Engineer Dudhankar, who oversees the Mahape unit of MIDC, shed light on one of the contributing factors to this water supply challenge. He explained that some of the water channels within the MIDC area have become old over time. As a result, these channels have become prone to blockages, often obstructed by debris and other materials. Such blockages have an effect on the water supply, leading to the low-pressure issue that the industrial estate currently faces.
The call for immediate action to address this water supply shortage is growing more urgent, as manufacturers are keen to avoid further disruptions to their production processes. The industrial estate in Navi Mumbai is a vital economic hub, and resolving these water supply challenges promptly is crucial to ensuring the region's continued industrial growth and stability.
