Kalyan: The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has activated its emergency response system due to the continuous heavy rainfall affecting the area over the past few days. On Thursday, alone, the municipal region recorded 109 mm of rainfall. In response to the ongoing situation, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Indurani Jakhar, along with additional commissioners, deputy commissioners, municipal engineers, and assistant commissioners, is overseeing the emergency measures from the Integrated Control and Command Centre.
With the Ulhas and Kalu rivers approaching dangerous levels, Dr. Jakhar has urged citizens to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary.
Approximately 100 citizens from the low-lying A ward were relocated to Patidar Bhawan in Shahad due to severe waterlogging. Food and basic necessities have been provided to them. In Ward C, where water accumulation has affected Annabhau Sathe Nagar and Retibandar, evacuation plans are in place, with food and medical supplies, including Doxy tablets and ORSL, being distributed.
In ward D, the KDMC has deployed suction pipes to drain water from Savarkar Nagar, with arrangements made for displaced citizens at Jaibai School. Budhvihara, Ashoknagar, Waldhuni, and Municipal School No. 16 are also serving as temporary shelters with accommodations and meals provided.
Suction pumps are in use at Dwarli in I ward to address stagnant water issues. In ward C, residents of Municipal School No. 21 have been accommodated due to flooding behind Balaji Garden. A health team has conducted check-ups and distributed medical supplies, including Doxy pills, to displaced individuals across various locations.
“The KDMC continues to monitor the situation closely and is committed to providing necessary support and resources to affected residents during this challenging time”, stated KDMC Chief Dr. Indurani.
