Uran: Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), has kicked off the financial year 2025-26 on a strong note by handling 667,922 TEUs of containers in April 2025 — marking a 21.28% increase over the same month last year. The total cargo handled also saw a healthy rise, reaching 8.44 million tonnes, up by 17.81% compared to April 2024.

Adding to this performance, Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals set a new record by handling 229,848 TEUs in April, the highest monthly throughput ever achieved by any terminal at JNPA.

Rail movement too showed robust growth, with the port managing 589 container rakes in April 2025 — a 21.19% jump over 486 rakes handled in April 2024. Correspondingly, container volumes moved by rail rose to 93,758 TEUs, registering a year-on-year growth of 24.24%.

The impressive performance in April reflects JNPA’s improved port infrastructure, proactive cargo facilitation measures, and growing demand along key trade routes. As volumes continue to scale up, the port authority is reinforcing its position as the preferred gateway for containerised trade on India’s western coast.
