Thane: India’s 11-member Box Langdi team secured a historic gold medal at the inaugural Box Langdi World Cup, held from October 23 to 25. Representing the nation on an international stage, the young athletes brought immense pride to India while showcasing the vast sporting potential hidden within underprivileged communities.
The team’s victory highlights the extraordinary discipline, determination, and resilience of children who overcame severe financial hardships to excel in sports. Their journey serves as a powerful testament to how targeted guidance and access to opportunities can help disadvantaged youth realise their full potential.
The team was mentored and guided by the Elysium Smiles Foundation, an NGO dedicated to supporting underserved children through education and extracurricular initiatives since 2017.
Additionally, corporate sponsor Nexus Select Malls fully funded the team’s World Cup expenses, ensuring the athletes could compete internationally without financial barriers. This achievement underscores the vital role that collaboration between social organisations and corporate sponsors plays in empowering marginalised youth.
Reflecting on the triumph, Komal Udhwani, Chief Trustee of Elysium Smiles Foundation, emphasised that the victory represents far more than a gold medal. She noted that while talent exists everywhere, equal opportunities do not. She expressed hope that the team's success would inspire other children to pursue their dreams despite their circumstances.
Returning home as world champions, these young athletes carry a powerful message of hope, proving that financial limitations need not restrict a child’s future when talent is properly nurtured and supported.
