Ulwe: Air India Group will begin shifting select domestic and international flights from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in December 2026, as part of a wider plan to facilitate the redevelopment of Terminal 1 at Mumbai airport.

Air India Express will start with four daily domestic flights from NMIA in December. From January 2027, it plans to introduce services to Kuwait and operate its existing Oman services from the new airport.

The next phase will see Air India Express shift services to Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Doha, Muscat and Sharjah to NMIA. The entire transition is expected to be completed by the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Northern Summer 2027 season.

The phased relocation forms part of a broader airport transition programme involving domestic and international airlines. It is intended to facilitate the long-awaited redevelopment of CSMIA’s Terminal 1 while strengthening Mumbai’s dual-airport system.

Air India Group will continue operating from both CSMIA and NMIA, serving the Mumbai Metropolitan Region while preserving the historicity of its existing operating slots at CSMIA.

Adani Airport Holdings Limited has welcomed the airline group’s plans to commence operations from NMIA. The new airport is being developed with advanced technology, multimodal connectivity and scalable infrastructure to accommodate future passenger growth.

The transition is expected to expand travel options for passengers, improve connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and help distribute the region’s growing air traffic between the two airports.
