Mira-Bhayandar: Heavy vehicles have been temporarily banned on Ghodbunder Road for four days as repair work resumes on the deteriorating Gaimukh Ghat section. The Mira-Bhayandar Vasai-Virar (MBVV) Police Commissionerate announced the restriction, effective from 10 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, through to midnight on October 14.
The stretch between Gaimukh and Versova Chowk, plagued by potholes, has long been a major bottleneck for commuters. While resurfacing work commenced in August, it was delayed due to the Ganeshotsav and Navratri festivals.
With Diwali approaching, the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has decided to complete the pending repairs to improve road safety and flow.
To avoid traffic congestion, heavy and multi-axle vehicles are being diverted. Light vehicles and emergency services will still have access to the road. The MBVV Police have outlined alternative routes for heavy vehicles.
This marks the third repair round on the stretch in four months, sparking frustration among daily commuters. DCP Ashok Virkar urged all drivers to adhere to the diversions and cooperate with traffic personnel for a smoother commute.
Diversion routes announced:
To maintain smooth traffic flow, police have arranged alternate routes for heavy vehicles:
From Palghar–Virar side: Vehicles should take Shirsat Phata, proceed to Parol, then Akloli (Ganeshpuri), and continue via Ambadi Road.
From Palghar–Vasai side: Follow Chinchoti, then Kaman, Kharbav, Anjurphata, and finally reach Bhiwandi.
From Western Express Highway (Mumbai/Kashimira side): Use Versova Bridge, continue on Gujarat Highway, then take the Shirsat Phata or Chinchoti route.
From Thane/Mumbai towards Ghodbunder: Entry for heavy vehicles will be closed at Waghbil Junction and Kapurbawdi. Drivers should take Kharegaon Toll Naka, proceed through Mankoli, and then reach Anjurphata.
