Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has ordered an inquiry into allegations against metro contractor J. Kumar and officials of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) after concerns were raised in the Assembly by Mira-Bhayander MLA Narendra Mehta.
During the session, Mehta alleged irregularities in the construction of Metro Line 9 between Dahisar and Mira Bhayander. He said, “Several irregularities in the construction of Metro Line 9 between Dahisar and Mira Bhayander. The project, undertaken by MMRDA, began in October 2019 and was originally expected to be completed by 2023.”
However, the project remains incomplete till 2026, and the MLA claimed that no penalties have been imposed for the delay. He also alleged that a casting yard was set up on land in Chena, within the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation area, where land worth around Rs 20 crore was reportedly rented to MMRDA for nearly Rs 80 crore.
Responding to the allegations, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal said, “The state government will investigate the matter under the chairmanship of the Deputy Chief Secretary, and strict action will be taken against those found guilty. The excess money taken by the contractor will be recovered.”
