A goods train carrying heavy iron coils from Panvel to Vasai derailed near Panvel on Saturday, 30th September approximately at 3 pm, leading to significant disruptions in the railway network. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported in the incident, despite five to six bogies of the goods train derailing. However, the derailment had a substantial impact on the operation of long-distance express trains.
The goods train, en route to Vasai from Pawanel, was transporting a substantial load of heavy iron coils when the mishap occurred. The derailment happened between Kalamboli and Panvel stations, causing the iron coils to spill onto the tracks and obstruct the railway line. As a result, railway authorities had to halt express trains heading towards Panvel.
Upon receiving information about the incident, railway officials and workers swiftly reached the scene, working diligently to remove the fallen iron coils and repair the damaged railway track. This effort was carried out with the utmost urgency to restore normalcy to the affected route.
In response to the derailment, the railway administration decided to divert express trains that typically pass through the impacted area onto alternative routes. This strategic rerouting was implemented to minimize further disruptions and ensure passenger safety. However, this decision caused significant inconvenience to travelers, with several trains being halted at various stations along their routes.
Among the trains affected by the diversion and stoppage are the Gorakhpur-Panvel Express, Kalamboli-Mangalore Express, Mumbai Central-Sawantwadi Express, Indore Express, and Ernakulam-Nizamuddin Express. Passengers on these services have had to contend with delays and alterations to their travel plans as railway authorities continue their efforts to restore normalcy to the affected rail line.
