Bhayander: Four people, including two women and two children, were injured on Thursday afternoon when a slab on the first floor of building number 10 in the Chandresh Accord housing complex, Mira Road, suddenly collapsed. The injured were immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities from the local ward office and the anti-encroachment department promptly evacuated the building as a precautionary measure.

Chandresh Accord, located in the Silver Park area of Mira Road, is a sprawling housing complex comprising 40 buildings and 745 flats. Residents have been pursuing redevelopment plans for several years, but they claimed the process has been hampered due to pressure from local representatives seeking contracts, causing delays and obstacles in the work.

During the accident, the children sustained injuries to their hands and legs, while the women suffered head injuries. Following the incident, residents, frustrated by the alleged lack of support from the Deputy Registrar in the redevelopment process, staged a protest at the Sub-Registrar’s office, demanding immediate action and accountability.

Officials have urged residents to stay away from the building until a detailed safety assessment is conducted. Investigations into the cause of the slab collapse are currently underway.
