The Indian U17 women’s football team displayed skill and composure in a 2-0 victory over Myanmar in the first of two international friendly matches, held at Thuwunna Stadium on March 12. Pritika Barman starred for India, scoring both goals to secure the win.
These friendlies form part of preparations for the upcoming AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup, scheduled in Suzhou, China, from 1–17 May 2026. Myanmar, also qualified for the tournament, is using the matches to fine-tune their squad. The teams will meet again on Saturday, 14 March 2026, for the second friendly.
India delivered a balanced performance, scoring in both halves while keeping a clean sheet. Goalkeeper Munni made crucial saves, and the defence, led by Abhista Basnett and Elizabed Lakra, remained organised throughout.
The breakthrough came in the 38th minute after Redima Devi Chingkhamayum released Barman with a precise through ball. Barman evaded her marker and rounded Myanmar goalkeeper Saung Pwint Phyu to slot home for a 1-0 lead at half-time.
In the second half, India increased the tempo. Four minutes after the restart, Alva Devi Senjam delivered a cross that Barman met to volley home and double India’s lead. India maintained control, nearly adding a third when Abhista’s powerful free-kick struck the crossbar. Efficient ball movement and disciplined defending saw India comfortably secure a solid 2-0 victory.
