Uran: Farmers from Chirner and Kalambusare villages have expressed strong opposition against Hind Terminals CFS company, citing injustice and neglect of local project-affected farmers and landowners. The company was established on the cultivated lands of 40 local farmers, promising employment to their heirs and local residents. However, on 30 January, operations began with around 200 external workers, ignoring the locals entirely.
The farmers claim the company administration has misled them and threatened residents, causing widespread outrage. Generations of farmland were acquired for the project, and soil filling in the watershed has disrupted irrigation, leading to crop damage and fear of flooding for around 600 homes. Heavy vehicles have worsened traffic congestion.
Local leaders, including Chirner and Kalambusare Gram Panchayat representatives, have issued a statement demanding that project-affected farmers and local youth be given priority employment. They have warned that the company should face closure if these demands are ignored.
An indefinite protest has been scheduled for March 10 at the company’s entrance, with a written statement submitted to the Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner, Belapur Deputy Commissioner, Uran Assistant Commissioner, Raigad District Collector, Uran Tehsildar, and other authorities. The delegation emphasised that the company will be fully responsible for any law and order issues during the protest.
