Factory workers stage protest march to MIDC office in Dombivli

Amidst mounting tension in the Dombivli industrial sector, hundreds of factory workers took to the streets in protest against closure notices issued by pollution boards to several companies. Faced with an uncertain future, company owners rallied against what they deemed a unilateral decision by the government, demanding justice and recourse.

The protest culminated in a march to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) office on Friday, where representatives of the company owners met with MIDC officer Rajesh Mule to discuss their grievances and demands.

The recent tragedy at Amudan Chemical Company, where a boiler explosion claimed the lives of 12 workers with nine still missing, prompted the government to consider shutting hazardous chemical companies in the region. Consequently, all companies in the area are under scrutiny by pollution control boards, with some receiving relocation notices. Additionally, rumours abound that the pollution board has ordered MIDC officials to terminate electricity and water supplies to these companies.

Expressing their concerns and frustrations, company owners voiced their opposition to these decisions, highlighting the potential ramifications for their businesses and employees. Dr. Deven Soni, the working president of a labour organization, questioned the fairness of punishing innocent company owners for the actions of a few. He emphasized the need for adherence to regulations while urging authorities to consider the welfare of workers and the livelihoods at stake.

The company owners have appealed to MIDC officials to intervene and address their grievances, seeking a resolution that upholds justice and fairness for all stakeholders.
