Free NMMT travel for residents above 65 years of age in Navi Mumbai

In a heart-warming gesture ahead of Diwali, senior citizens aged 65 years and above residing in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) area, will receive a special Diwali gift – free travel on Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) buses. Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar recently made the announcement, reflecting the city's commitment to honouring and supporting its elderly population.

Navi Mumbai is renowned for its dedication to the well-being of senior citizens, and this initiative adds another layer of relief for those above 65. Starting from November 13, senior citizens can enjoy complimentary travel on all types of NMMT buses within the municipal limits.

The NMMT fleet, known for its efficient service, consists of 205 diesel, 85 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles, including 56 air-conditioned Volvo buses and 195 air-conditioned electric buses. The NMMT operates on 75 bus routes covering Mumbai, Borivali, Thane, Bhiwandi, Dombivli, Kalyan, Ambernath, Badlapur, Panvel, Khopoli, Karjat, Rasayani, and Uran, both within and outside the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation limits.

Senior citizens above 65 years wishing to avail themselves of this complimentary travel benefit need to obtain an identity card from the NMMT. The required documents include a date of birth certificate or Aadhaar card, proving the individual is above 65, a property tax document in the family member's name as proof of residence in the NMMC area, and, for seniors on lease, an agreement copy or Tehsildar's certificate indicating residency in Navi Mumbai for at least five years.

Identity Cards will be issued upon the submission of original and photocopies of the necessary documents, along with three passport-size photographs.

The decision has been widely praised by citizens, public representatives, and senior citizens alike, showcasing the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation's dedication to fostering a supportive and caring community.
