CR bags 10th Women All India Railway Weightlifting Championships

Central Railway (CR) emerged victorious in the 10th Women’s All India Railway Weightlifting Championship that was held from August 24th to 28th, 2024. Organised by Western Railway Sports Association (WRSA) at its Mahalakshmi Ground, Mumbai, the prestigious event saw participation from top railway weightlifters across the country.
The women weightlifters of Central Railway delivered outstanding performances, securing multiple medals, some close finishes and setting new national records, resulting in them securing a total of 227 points en-route the overall Team Championships. Hosts Western Railway (WR) weightlifters followed closely in the runners-up position with 224 points.
The key highlights of Central Railway’s Women’s Team Performance included setting two new National Records in Clean and Jerk events by Gold medalist Vanshita Varma (CCTC, Mumbai Division) in the 81 Kg category. Sarika Shingare (Sr. Clerk, Lonavala) and Sakshi Mhaske (CCTC, Lonavala) both won a Silver medal in the 49 Kg and 55 Kg categories. On the other hand, strong women Ketaki Navale (CCTC, Mumbai Division) and Shehal Bhongale (Ponitsman, Solapur Division) – clinched the Bronze medals in the 76 Kg and 87 Kg categories.
Amirth E. P. (Jr. Clerk, Bhusawal Division) competing in the 45 kg, Meera Jagdale (CCTC, Matunga) in the 59 Kg and Sonal Sawant (CCTC, Mumbai Division) in the 64 kg categories, narrowly missed the podium finish and secured fourth place respectively.
Ashwini Ambekar (DY SS, Bhusawal Division) on the hand put up a brave fight and finished fifth in the 71 kg category while Swati Krishna Nair (Sr. CCTC, Mumbai Division) ended up 10th in the same weight category,
The Central Railway team’s exceptional performance, marked by a combination of strength, skill, and determination, owed their success and achievements to the Central Railway Sports Association (CRSA) and made the entire CR family proud with their achievements at the national stage.
The five day All India Railway Weightlifting Championship has once again showcased the incredible talent and sportsmanship of women railway athletes, reinforcing the importance of sports in fostering camaraderie and excellence among railway employees.
