CM Eknath Shinde ensures health system preparedness against JN.1 variant

In response to the detection of the JN.1 variant of the Coronavirus in the country and the state, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde conducted a comprehensive review of the health system's preparedness. Emphasizing proactive measures, the Chief Minister instructed the immediate undertaking of structural, electrical, and fire audits in health institutions across the state.

In a televised meeting with health officials and the Collector, Chief Minister Shinde highlighted the importance of maintaining a robust system of isolation and oxygen beds in hospitals. The government aims to assure citizens and urged them not to succumb to fear, emphasizing adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures.

Health Minister Dr. Tanaji Sawant, Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif, and other high-ranking officials were present at the meeting, where the Chief Minister emphasized the need for a thorough check of oxygen plants, ventilators, and RTPCR labs. The vaccination status and review of those not vaccinated were also discussed.

Chief Minister Shinde urged the health system to establish a task force and seek guidance from experts. He stressed the importance of maintaining adequate stocks of vaccines and medicines while ensuring the functionality of essential equipment. Information about the current status of Covid Centers, Isolation Beds, ICU Beds, and Ventilator Beds was also shared.

While acknowledging the nation's successful past efforts against COVID-19, Chief Minister Shinde reassured citizens that the state is fully prepared to handle the current situation. He advised immediate testing for those exhibiting symptoms and advocated mask usage in crowded places, especially with upcoming festivals and New Year celebrations.

To prevent misinformation, the Chief Minister appealed to social and mass media to disseminate only official information about the new variant, ensuring there is no confusion or panic among the public.

Health Minister Dr. Sawant and Minister of Medical Education Shri. Mushrif provided updates on the health system's preparedness, including information about mock drills conducted from December 15 to 17, 2023. Currently, the state boasts 63 thousand isolation beds, 33 thousand oxygen beds, 9 thousand 500 ICU beds, and 6 thousand ventilator beds.

Principal Secretary Brijesh Singh announced plans for a public awareness campaign regarding the JN.1 variant, reinforcing the government's commitment to transparency and effective communication.
