In yet another alarming incident, a bedroom slab collapsed in a CIDCO constructed building in Seawoods, raising concerns among residents and sparking demands for immediate reconstruction. The incident occurred on Friday night in the flat of Sachin Khamkar, a tenant residing at D-39 Room No. 5 in Priyadarshini Society, Sector 48.
Luckily, Khamkar escaped from serious injury as he was sleeping in the opposite direction at the time of the incident, averting a potential tragedy. The incident has reignited fears among citizens, prompting demands for the CIDCO administration to take swift action and grant special permission for the reconstruction of the dangerously compromised building in Seawoods.
Former corporator Bharat Jadhav, expressing concern over the recurring collapses, has called for urgent intervention by CIDCO to address the safety issues plaguing the housing societies in Sector 48, 48A, and 46 in Seawoods. There are a total of 32 CIDCO constructed housing societies in these sectors, comprising around 4 thousand flats.
The issue of substandard construction by CIDCO has been a long-standing problem, with reports of plaster falling from building slabs for the past 10 to 12 years. While CIDCO had previously undertaken repair work on houses damaged by accidents, the efforts were halted two years ago, citing an expired deadline.
The latest incident, marking the 19th collapse, occurred in Priyadarshini Society in Seawoods Sector 48.
Former BJP corporator Bharat Jadhav, who rushed to the spot after the incident, demanded the immediate resumption of repair works on the collapsed flats. Expressing dissatisfaction with CIDCO's construction standards, Jadhav has urged the administration to address the safety concerns and commence reconstruction without delay.
Understanding the seriousness of the issue, Bharat Jadhav has contacted the Managing Director of CIDCO and the Chief City Engineer, emphasizing the urgency of repairing in Priyadarshini Society.
