Belapur: The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has registered 171 cases and taken legal action against 456 persons for illegal construction debris dumping between 2023 and August 30, 2026. The enforcement drive, led by Chief Vigilance Officer Suresh Mengde, has resulted in the seizure of 430 dumpers and several other heavy vehicles.
The campaign targets unauthorised disposal of construction waste on CIDCO-acquired land, including plots earmarked for major infrastructure projects such as the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). Authorities are also acting against illegal excavation and theft of natural soil.
Cases increased from 31 in 2023 and 21 in 2024 to 46 in 2025. By August 30, 2026, another 69 cases had been registered. Ulwe Police Station reported the highest number in 2026, with 18 cases, followed by Vashi with 15, Kharghar with 11, Uran with 10 and Panvel City with nine.
The seized vehicles include seven trucks, one tempo, two JCB machines, two poclains and one bulldozer, apart from the 430 dumpers. The operation involved CIDCO’s unauthorised construction department, engineering teams, senior officials and security personnel.
With infrastructure development accelerating across Navi Mumbai, Panvel and Uran, illegal dumping remains a significant environmental concern. CIDCO has warned that such activities on its land will not be tolerated.
Mengde said, "Sustained enforcement has dealt a major blow to those involved and the drive will continue." He urged citizens to report illegal dumping through CIDCO’s official website or the concerned police station to enable prompt action. The corporation reiterated its commitment to protecting acquired land, public health, and the environment.
