Villagers and officials reach agreement for developmental works
In a significant turn of events, the planned protest by Chirle Gram Panchayat villagers against the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and the Maharashtra State Government has been called off. This decision comes after a crucial meeting held at the office of Konkan Commissioner CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai, which resulted in a positive dialogue between the villagers and government officials.
Scheduled initially to coincide with the inauguration of the Sewri–Nhava Sheva Trans Harbour Link on January 12th, the protest was intended to highlight the prolonged delays in developmental projects crucial to the village's growth. Villagers expressed their frustration, citing unfulfilled assurances despite repeated pleas to the authorities.
However, a breakthrough occurred during the meeting, attended by key stakeholders, including Sarpanch Sudhakar Patil of Chirle Gram Panchayat, Konkan Divisional Commissioner Mahendra Kalyankar, MMRDA Officer Vidya Keni, CIDCO Officer Kailas Shinde, President of Zilla Parishad, Group Development Officer of Uran Panchayat Samiti Sameer Vatharkar, and Village Sevak Vaibhav Gharat of Group Gram Panchayat Chirle.
The discussions, overseen by Commissioner Kalyankar, led to an optimistic outcome. MMRDA Officer Vidya Keni provided a written assurance that all pending development works in Chirle village would be completed. This commitment was pivotal in convincing Sarpanch Sudhakar Patil and the villagers to call off their protest.
Commissioner Kalyankar stated the legitimacy of the demands raised by Chirle Gram Panchayat and its villagers, emphasizing that the administration was committed to addressing their grievances. He instructed the concerned authorities—MMRDA, CIDCO, and Zilla Parishad—to promptly resolve the issues raised during the meeting.
To ensure immediate action and resolution, Commissioner Kalyankar has called for a crucial follow-up meeting on January 16th, 2024, at the Collectorate Alibaug. This meeting aims to expedite the resolution process and ensure that the promises made to Chirle Gram Panchayat and its villagers are fulfilled without further delay.
