Central Election Inspectors rally coordination efforts for peaceful Lok Sabha elections in Thane District

As the nation gears up for the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 20, 2024, meticulous planning and coordination efforts are underway in Thane district to ensure a smooth and peaceful electoral process. Directed by authorities, officials from various departments convened to strategize and reinforce their commitment to conducting the elections in the 23-Bhiwandi, 24-Kalyan, and 25-Thane Lok Sabha constituencies with utmost impartiality and diligence.

In a crucial meeting held at the committee hall of Nijjan Bhavan, presided over by Collector and District Election Officer Ashok Shingare, Central Election Inspectors along with key officials deliberated on the necessary measures to uphold the integrity of the electoral process. Among those present were J. Shyamala Rao (IAS), Manoj Jain (IAS), and Rajanveer Singh Kapur (IAS), accompanied by respective Expenditure Inspectors and Police Inspectors.

The meeting emphasised the importance of adhering to the model code of conduct outlined by the Election Commission of India, with a strong emphasis on maintaining law and order, particularly in sensitive polling stations across the three constituencies. To prevent any breaches of conduct, strict vigilance measures were discussed, including the deployment of video recording teams to monitor campaign activities and swiftly address any violations.

Furthermore, measures to curb the circulation of paid news through various media channels were highlighted, emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring and prompt action against any instances of misinformation.

Addressing concerns regarding financial transactions and the transportation of illegal cash, the Election Commission emphasized the implementation of QR code tracking for large transactions and proposed the deployment of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel at Thane railway station.

Ahead of polling day, detailed checklists and guidelines were provided to presiding officers to streamline procedures and ensure efficiency at polling stations. Additionally, training sessions for polling station staff were organized to familiarize them with essential tasks and protocols.
